FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of warranties can I expect from my system?
  • The solar electric modules we install typically carry a twenty five year warranty. The grid tied inverters we install carry a ten year standard warranty. The off–grid inverters carry a two year warranty with optional five year warranty. Most of the wind generators we install have a five year warranty. Solar Collectors (for hot water) have a ten year warranty. Batteries vary in warranty but some have as high as ten years. Most other components, such as charge controllers have a two year warranty. We warranty our installation and craftsmanship for one year.

What are the benefits of using solar energy to heat water in my home?
  • First, the fuel is free! Once you recover the higher initial costs of a solar system through reduced or avoided energy costs (that is, lower utility bills), your solar system will require expenditures only for maintenance. And when you include the cost of a solar water heater in a mortgage on a new home, the system often provides a positive monthly cash flow from the first day of ownership.

Second, solar water heaters and other solar technology applications do not pollute. They do not add to the carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and other air pollutants and wastes produced by most of today’s power plants, even those that run on natural gas. And they allow you to burn less natural gas in your home, as well.

What kind of maintenance is required for a PV system?
  • In the grid tied photovoltaic system, little maintenance is required. Periodical cleaning of the modules is desired.

Do I need batteries for a grid tied system?
  • No in a grid tied system, the utility becomes your storage device. This reduces the cost and complexity of a system. It also means when the power shuts off, your renewable energy system shuts down. This is a safety measure for utility workers repairing downed lines.

Can I use photovoltaic modules to heat my house?
  • This is not recommended, electric heat is extremely inefficient, and the amount of modules required may bankrupt you.

How long do photovoltaic (PV) systems last?
  • A PV system that is designed, installed, and maintained well will operate for more than 20 years. The basic PV module (interconnected, enclosed panel of PV cells) has no moving parts and can last more than 30 years. The best way to ensure and extend the life and effectiveness of your PV system is by having it installed and maintained properly.
